It prompted me to reflect on the erasure and scrubbing away of vital humanitarian and societal progress. Through this lens, the distorted imagery in my work represents the warped vision of what is claimed to make this land “great” again. But is this land truly great for everyone?
I am Black. I am a woman. Am I really meant to believe that this land was once a beacon of greatness?
Don’t mistake me; I hold a deep love for this land. It’s that love that compels me to speak the truth, even when that truth is not pretty. I am filled with anger and urgency. We must strive for better.
