Poster -The Glass Ceiling
As a result of the intersection of race and gender, Black women are uniquely positioned to face "double bias," or "double jeopardy" in the workplace. This shows up in experiences like navigating a disproportionate number of microaggressions from colleagues or clients, wearing the internal pressure to work "twice as hard" to get 61 cents on the dollar compared to our white male counterparts on average, and the added emotional labor of tempering our demeanor so we aren't perceived as overly aggressive or rude. These burdens on top of the everyday stress and strain that often comes with demanding work environments often slow Black women down on the path to promotion - or limit their career growth altogether - as bias presents a constant barrier to career advancement.
Though Black women are consistently the most educated demographic in this country, we are still vastly underrepresented in leadership roles across industries. -Tiffany Tate
