For many people, rural living seems idyllic, with pleasant views, simplicity, and a tight-knit community. However, the reality is quite different. Residing in a rural farming area often involves encountering traditional ideals and, for the most part, a significant amount of bigotry.
Imagine being someone who identifies as "different," not adhering to traditional societal conceptions of gender. Imagine being bullied, ostracized, or even physically harmed because you are deemed "abnormal" for refusing to conform. Picture feeling lost among your neighbors, peers, and even within your own family. Envision people justifying their hurtful behavior by saying it has always been this way. Now imagine that your only safe space exists in your dreams.
There are individuals who deserve safe spaces beyond their dreams.
