The legacy of slavery has left an indelible mark on Black people in the United States. Despite not being physical, the scars from this dark era are very real. The expectation for Black people to "get over it" or to accommodate white fragility is unfair and ignorant. The dream that race might someday become an insignificant category in our civic life now seems almost unattainable, given the enduring impact of slavery on society.
However, despite these deep scars, Black people continue to persevere and remain unbroken.
